Level 1:
Pillowcase These pillowcases are so much fun to make and are great presents. They are sometimes called the hot dog pillowcases because of the enclosed seams that is a very fun little trick. The student feels very accomplished at finishing such a big first project!
Messenger Bag Simple but yet still challenging to the learning mind is this messenger bag. It is big enough for the student to carry music books, etc. but not overpowering. It would be great with a monogram on the front. The student is also given the chance to work with a heavier fabric.
Basic Skirt/Shorts This is a simple elastic waist skirt made from each individual child's measurement. They learn how to create a simple pattern as well as take measurements to get a better fit. We discuss grainline and placement of the pattern as well as use a serger to finish raw edges.
Stuffed Animal The student will learn how to make the simplest of toys from even their own drawings, etc. Maneuvering around corners and tight places will be discussed as they enjoy this fun project.
Level 2: (It is important that the student has taken Level 1 first to avoid frustration) ***Pictures will be added as they become available***
Slouchy Top More garment construction skills will be acquire as the students learn how to sew with knits and start to develop their own style. They will continue to learn how to lay out a pattern onto the knit and cut out a store bought pattern. We will go over the markings on the patterns and what they mean. The students love making clothes for themselves.
TuTu This is fun, simple project but with big results. Very little sewing is required but it will make a cute accessory to coordinate with the slouchy top and worn over leggings.
Beanbag Ottoman or Pillow This is an awesome way for students to learn to make their own accessories and bring their style into their personal space inexpensively. They will learn how to properly stuff a pillow out of fabric that they can express themselves through.
Vinyl Zippered Purse Vinyl is so popular and it is great experience for the students to work with it. They could have quite the little home business making vinyl purse & pouches to sell. A great introduction to putting zippers into bags, etc. The students can choose to use glitter vinyl and have so much fun!
Quilt Camp: ***Pictures will be added as they become available***
Mini Quilt or Wall Hanging Learning the basics of quilting as the students create a small quilt from precuts. The can choose the configuration and size within reason to be used as a decoration for the wall in their room or for their dolls. They will learn the basics of using a rotary cutter as they cut borders and bindings for their quilt. Fundamentals of quilting techniques will be discussed and practiced as they quilt their own quilt top. The correct process of making quilt binding and mitering corners will be gone over as we spend a busy week quilting.
